Hello crafty friends and welcome to another Colour Me…! challenge! This week’s colors are Island Indigo, Smoky Slate, and Lost Lagoon. It’s a wonderfully subtle color combination that can be used in any number of ways and would be perfect for male cards.
I decided to create a card that could be used either for guys or gals and used an assortment of different dies and stamps from different brands. As usual, I’m not using any SU inks (don’t own any) but rather matching colors from other brands like Hero Arts (Soft Charcoal) or Avery Elle (Aquamarine). If you wonder how I pick a matching color, check out this post. For a full list of supplies, check out the end of the post.
What makes this card special for me is that the large die cut in the center (feather) lets one of the challenge colors shine through; makes me especially feel good because otherwise the front panel would have covered up most of the Island Indigo cardstock and that would have been a waste, now, wouldn’t it? 😉
As you can see in the video, I struggled quite a bit with the arrangement of the feathers. My plan was quite different from the final card, but I think the final card is much better than what originally had in mind. Just shows that you shouldn’t cling to something and be open for new ideas, even if that means taking a huge leap of faith and stamping on a 3-D mounted panel to save the card 😉
It was the first time I used the Hello die by Wplus9 and I fell in love with it right away. It’s so elegant, yet so welcoming and warm … love the font! And I think it’s worth the extra time to fiddle with the little paper pieces that were cut out from the “loops” of the letters. Re-inserting them just gives the card a more finished look.
I hope you enjoyed today’s card and try to combine colored paper with different ink colors. I personally often forget about my colored paper, so I’m glad that this challenge made me pull out a sheet and put it to good use.
As usual, the final list can be found below. Here’s a photo of all the goodies I used for making this card.
Since I couldn’t, for the life of my, get a working link for the Wplus9 products in Inlinkz, here are direct links to the Wplus9 category at Make The Day Special where I shop my stuff. I’ve also used Island Indigo Card Stock which can be purchased directly from Stampin Up.
