Today I’m terribly excited to use stamps and dies from an absolutely wonderful European shop called Clearly Besotted Stamps. When I saw the Hanging Around set I knew I just had to have it (and stayed up late to make sure I could snatch it the day it was released). My card today is for the Colour Me…! challenge which calls for the color Red (and a neutral).
I feel that keeping a card monochromatic – that means only using one color in addition to neutrals such as white, silver, Kraft, or black – is a great way of creating elegant cards. Having just one color forces you to think about your card and the elements on it because everything will stand out. In my case, the red contrasts beautifully with the plain white of the card.
To mute the intensity of the background, I employed a medium that should be in every crafter’s stash: vellum. It still lets the color shine through and the texture I stamped on it, but it tones it down so it doesn’t drown out my main focal point, which is the wreath.
By the way – I used clear dimensional tape here behind the die cut – it was an absolute pain to get the liner paper off (cheap tape), but the ten minutes it cost me were totally worth it. When you look from the side, there’s no way you can tell why the ornament floats on top of the vellum. Oh, aren’t we crafters magicians at heart?! 😉
I hope you’ll be joining us at the Colour Me…! challenge this week – I absolutely can’t wait to see what you guys do with this challenge, Christmas themed or not.
I’m sending this card to the Addicted To Stamps and more challenge as well, because their current inspiration photo and my card – well, they were made for each other 😉 and to the Crafty Card Makers and More #126 challenge “Cut it Out” because there’s quite a bit of cutting in this card.
Thanks for stopping by!
