Sometimes, the crazy overcomes me and I can’t just make a good ol’ regular card, I have to be technique queen and try everything at once. Yeah, that’s me. So instead of going for a nice and easy card for the current challenge over at the Colour Me…! blog (oh, the colors this week are gorgeous!), I needed to mix Copic coloring with embossing and with distress ink. Go figure.
As you can see, I did a few boo-boos here. First of all, I should have just stamped the image before I masked it off; that would have significantly reduced the risk of those ugly white lines which you see in parts of the video. I had to go in with a paper pen, pick up ink, and smudge it in there. And it shows … duh. Second, I should have practiced with the sponge dauber on the type of paper I used. Distress ink behaves differently on different papers and I didn’t get anything close to the smooth blend that I wanted, instead ending up with the mess you see …
Yes, I could claim this is intentional and artistic license (which I will when I send this off 😀 ), but I just wanted to show you this card nonetheless so you learn from my mistakes.
I also should have heat set the embossing powder on the trees right away; every time I tapped the powder off a newly covered area, it took away powder from the other areas and I ended up with less solid coverage than I like. Lesson learned.
Overall, I still like the idea of the card very much and I will give this another shot, but there are some technical errors which I made that make me just shake my head. But this just goes to show – nothing is perfect, and sometimes things don’t turn out perfect.
Hope you enjoyed the card nonetheless and that you’ll do a better job than me. Can’t wait to see what you create over at Colour Me…!
