Just One More Card

Discovering the world of card making. One Project at a time.

Watercolor Class: Wash and Stencil

May 7, 2014

I hope you won’t get sick of my watercolor attempts because you still have at at least a week of them ahead of you (sorry … well, not really, I’m having a blast). This is the third card I did on the first day of class (Monday) and I used a stencil with a generous wash of color.

Watercolor-Wash-Stencil-1

I usually never use colored card stock for my cards (I either forget or I feel like it doesn’t fit), but I felt that here it was looking good and gave the entire card a fresh feeling.

Watercolor-Wash-Stencil-2

I just love the pattern I created over the color wash; I also used some watercolor stamping for the flowers so they would match the overall watercolor style of the card.

Supplies used:

  • Memory Box Stencil
  • Cotman Watercolor paint
  • Wplus9 More Fresh Cuts
  • Wplus9 Tag die
  • Mama Elephant Waterblooms (sentiment)
  • Stampin Up colored card stock
I’m entering this card into the following challenges: Keep It Simple #39 Watercolor challenge and also into the Make The Day Special Color Challenge with the color choice 1.

The Best Is Yet To Come

May 3, 2014

This is just a quick post to share a card I made recently. My main goal was actually to record my card making process for a video, but it seems this is a bit more tricky than I expected, so no video but I’ve learned lots and hopefully I’ll be able to share some techniques soon.

Here’s my sparkly card:

Purple-Glitter-Butterfly-1

This card was inspired by a card Debbie Hughes made for the Online Card Class “Clean and Simple 3“, so I can’t show you the original, but mine is pretty close in layout to what Debbie did 😉
I used so many different techniques here I won’t mention them all because this post would get super long. But the short version: die cut the butterfly from the front panel, made it sticky with a double sided adhesive sheet, applied glitter and then colored the glitter with my Spectrum Noir markers.  Used a stencil for the raindrops (thank you, Laura Sterckx, for making me buy the silver embossing paste!) and Mama Elephant stamps for the sentiment. Done 🙂

Purple-Glitter-Butterfly-2

Oh, yeah, at the end I also used some Distress Ink to sponge the borders of the front panel where I cut the butterfly from. Not sure I’d do that again, but at that time it seems like a good idea 😉

Supplies used:

  • Memory Box Lunette Butterfly
  • Sizzix Double Sided Adhesive Sheets (via Stampin Up)
  • Distress Dry Stickles Rock Candy
  • Spectrum Noir Markers
  • Wendy Vecchi Silver Embossing Paste
  • Memento Luxe Pigment Ink Plum
  • Mama Elephant Up and Away Stamp Set (Sentiment)
  • Distress Ink Spun Sugar
  • Mini Distress Tool
  • Crafter’s Companion Mini Raindrops Stencil
I’ll be entering this card into the following challenges:
  • Make The Day Special Challenge #2, Color Choice 3 (purples and greys);
  • The Card Concept #9 “Monochromatic Purple” – I’ve chosen the style Clean and Layered. It uses lots of white space, but also allow for layers and embossing, which are both present on my card.
  • Butterfly Challenge #6 “Glamorous Butterflies” because, well, look at the sparkle!
  • Less Is More #170 “Three Shades of One Color” because I’m using three shades of purple;
  • CAS on Sunday #32 “Sparkle and Shimmer” because, well, it’s obvious, right? 😉

I (Heart) You Tag Card

March 25, 2014

Sometimes, inspiration hits and I can’t get an idea out of my head. So it happened with the current Less Is More challenge – I read the challenge definition and my new Wplus9 Timeless Tags 2 immediately popped into my head.

I-Heart-You-Tag-Card-1

Originally, I had only planned the right card with the tags mounted on top of the card, but just as I was about to cut the first tag from card stock, I thought I could do a smart thing and use the negative of the die cut. So, the second card (left) was born.

Additionally, I used a new technique I had learned in my Online Card Class course “Clean and Simple 3” which is Copic/Spectrum Noir coloring on vellum. I mounted the colored vellum behind the negative tag die cuts and then I glued the letter and the little circles where the tag opening was back on.

I-Heart-You-Tag-Card-4

Just to add some accent of color, I mounted the negative die cut on some red card stock to have the thin border. Without it, the card looked a bit lost.

As for the second card – it’s still my favorite 🙂 I used the same technique with the Spectrum Noir’s , just on a smaller scale, and glued the vellum on the back of the tags.

I-Heart-You-Tag-Card-3

I actually used my t-ruler to make sure the tags where aligned straight and evenly spaced. Only after I attached them, I realized I should have something in the background, so I stamped the stripes as an afterthought. That’s why it’s only on the outside, not in the middle 😉

I-Heart-You-Tag-Card-2

In this close up, you can see how I covered the tags with my Wink of Stella glitter brush and used my black Wink of Stella marker to create a faux stitch border to add some extra definition to the tags. And I couldn’t help but to add some twine, it was just too cute.

Supplies used

  • Dani Peuss heavy white card stock
  • Vellum
  • Spectrum Noir Markers
  • Wink of Stella Clear Brush
  • Wink of Stella black marker
  • Wplus9 Timeless Tags 2
  • Memory Box Die “Parker Lower Alphabet Set”
  • Heart Die (came with the Sizzix Big Shot)
  • Natural Twine

I’ll be entering this card into the following challenges: Simon Says Glitter It (I know, it’s the third one, but hey…GLITTER!); Less is more #164 “Threes” because that’s where I got the inspiration.
