Just One More Card

Discovering the world of card making. One Project at a time.

Video: Create a Die-Cut Only Card with a Sentiment – No Stamping (CMCC #40)

October 1, 2014

This is my second post today. For my card for the Stempelküche challenge, scroll down. // Das ist mein 2. Post heute. Für die Karte der Stempelküche Challenge, einfach runter scrollen.

Hello crafty friends! Today I have a super easy to make card for you, which requires no stamping at all! Seriously! And you can still have a sentiment! Wanna see?

When I made this card in preparation for the Colour Me…! challenge this week, I did not have any ink that came even close to Calypso Coral (that’s the color we are using in this week’s monochromatic challenge), so I had to resort to the patterned SU paper only. It’s amazing how creative you get if your supplies are limited, it’s actually a lot of fun to have to restrict yourself to certain products. All you need for a card like this is a sentiment die, another die of any shape, some nice patterned paper and some adhesive.

As you can see in the video, this card took no time at all to make. The big butterfly window is what shines on this card and makes the challenge color the focal point. I’m still thrilled about the “happy accident” that made me put the patterned paper underneath the white sentiment, not on top of it. I feel that the way I did it, it doesn’t distract but adds just the right amount of color to keep the “hello” legible.

I hope you enjoyed the video and I hope to see you over at the Colour Me…! challenge blog with your own creations! Thanks for stopping by!

Die Cutting & Paper Piecing with Distressed Butterfly

June 14, 2014

I wanted to try something new and so I created a panel which I watercolored, then die cut. The hard part was puzzling the pieces of the butterfly back into it, but with some patience, I managed 🙂

Watercolor Butterfly

The sentiment is from Casual Fridays, the Butterfly from Memory Box, and the the distress colors of course from Ranger/Tim Holtz.

I’ll be entering this card into the Colour Me…! #24 Striking challenge.

Update June 17, 2014: Woot, snatched an honorable mention for my card! YAY!

1 Challenge – 6 Cards: Butterfly Hello’s (Part 2)

May 14, 2014

This is my second post today and I’m continuing with my (slightly crazy) series of how I created six cards from the inspiration photo on Cure for the Monday Blues.

I’m actually showing you two cards today; the second one came about quite by accident and I liked the second card much better than the first one 🙂

Let’s start with the first one which was also inspired by a video from Julie Ebersole on The Classroom.

CFTMB-Hello-There-1

As you can see, I used again the colors from the challenge and also some fluid pearl makers to create the accents to pep up the card.

Here’re some making of photos:

  1. Cut thin stripes of colored paper and adhere them to a piece of copy paper.
  2. Die cut the mat with MFT pierced rectangle die.
  3. Cut butterfly shape from the rectangle you just created.
  4. Cut intricate butterfly from silver paper.
  5. Adhere silver butterfly with washi tape to the colorful rectangle.
The trick here is to use liberal amounts of washi tape, but make sure that you can’t see the tape from the front of the panel. It’s a bit fiddly, but doesn’t take too much time.
The second card resulted when I saw the cute butterfly shape I had die cut from the rectangle. It just would have been a waste to throw it away.

CFTMB-Wish-You-1

  1. I spritzed the basic butterfly shape with gold to make it shimmer.
  2. I die cut the intricate butterfly from vellum.
  3. I die cut the body of the butterfly from silver paper.
  4. After glueing the vellum to the basic shape and layering the body on top, I added a pearl to cover up the glue which you can otherwise see through the vellum.
  5. I used washi tape on the top and bottom to accentuate the borders of the card.
  6. I stamped the sentiment with Avery Elle Pigment Ink and a Simon Says Stamp sentiment.

CFTMB-Wish-You-2
Don’t really know why, but I like this second card much, much better than the first one. Maybe because the stripes on the other card were so bold and this one has more white space? Anyways, this was the second installment of my series, and I’ll be back until Sunday which another card for the same challenge. On Sunday, I’ll also be sharing a video of the final card where I color on kraft paper.

Thanks for stopping by!

View the other cards from this series:

  1. Congrats (balloon card)
  2. Hello There (butterfly card 1) – You are currently here.
  3. Wishing You (butterfly card 2) – You are currently here.
  4. Friends are like stars (silver embossing paste)
  5. Dance and Smile (paint brush strokes)
  6. Welcome Little One (balloons on a string)

I’ll be entering this card into the Cure For the Monday Blues #17 challenge.
