Today, dear crafters, we’re going to do something for your belly muscles. Yes, you read right. It’s not about crafting it all it’s about strengthening and conditioning your stomach. Who of us doesn’t need that? (Please, tell me that you just raised your hand and it’s not just me!) I also strongly advise you to put down any the drinks that you might be sipping as to not water your computer, iPad, or iPhone that you might use to read this post. Why am I saying this? Because I sincerely hope that the following card will make you laugh out loud and roll on the floor 🙂
I hope that most of you immediately made the connection with the popular Pixar short movie “For the Birds”. When I first received the Gerda Steiner Designs clear stamp set “Hello Spring” this is actually what came to my mind first! I know, I’m slightly crazy. Maybe not even just slightly.
It actually took me a couple of attempts to figure out how to best do this. In the end, I settled for a slightly different card size: this card is 4 1/8″ tall and 8 1/4″ wide (total paper size 8 1/4″ by 8 1/4″). I tried fitting it on a standard A2 sized card, but then that string, on which the birds sit, would have too steep an incline. For my German readers: this card size fits perfectly into an envelope with the form factor DINLang.
I actually drew the two wooden beams myself. Yes, nobody is more surprised than me that they turned up this nicely! Basically just two squiggly lines that have other squiggly lines poke out to the side. Seriously, that’s all I did. I am rather proud of the coloring on them though, especially since I discovered this great combination for wood by total accident. Here are the colors that I used: E79, E37, YR27 and YR23.
For the birds, I decided to only use two color families so they wouldn’t look completely chaotic. Believe me, I was tempted to give all of them a different color, but I think this looks just better. I also contemplated for a while whether or not to have grass on the bottom, because I imagined that the string on which the birds sit was quite high up. In the end, I’m quite happy that I added the grass. It grounds the card nicely.
The sentiment is from another Gerda Steiner Designs stamp set called “Heavy Friends”. I wanted something nice and simple so the attention would remain focused on the birds themselves.
I hope you have enjoyed the card and had a good chuckle. See you again soon!
