Just One More Card

Discovering the world of card making. One Project at a time.

Glitter Sentiment on a CAS Card

December 1, 2015

Today is a bittersweet day – Virginia’s View, one of my favorite challenges, is closing down (for now). You can read more in Virginia’s own words here, but I thought it would be best to honor the great work she has done over the past two years by creating a card for this last challenge.

V. V. Challenge #21 Logo

The topic of the last challenge is Glitter and as you can guess, it’s right up my alley. So, I sat on my craft desk and after an hour I resembled a fairy covered in fairy dust (from head to toe), but I was really happy about how my card turned out. Actually, I made more than one, but you’ll have to stay tuned – I’ll be sharing the other variations later.

Glitter Greeting with Reverse Confetti

Even though I had purchased them a while ago, I had forgotten to use these wonderful word dies by Reverse Confetti. The first time I had seen them, I had envisioned using them with glitter, so imagine my happiness when I learned about Virginia’s challenge. A match made in crafty heaven!

Glitter Greeting with Reverse Confetti

I started by adding double sided adhesive to a strip of card stock and then die cutting the word from it repeatedly. Thanks to my magnetic platform and precision base plate, it worked like a charm. I added the adhesive because that made it easier for me to adhere the die cuts together, but you could of course also use a fluid adhesive instead. The top die cut had the double sided adhesive on the front and back, so I could adhere it to the stack, then pour the glitter on top of it.

Glitter Greeting with Reverse Confetti

I combined the word die with the accompanying stamp set and another stamp set called “Scandinavian Holiday”. The ink I used for stamping is Delicata Gold and it has never let me down. You get great impressions every time! Since I wanted to make the panel with the word stand out, I mounted the die cut onto a die cut panel with stitching (love that small Pretty Pink Posh die!) and then used foam tape to adhere it to my card base.

Glitter Greeting with Reverse Confetti

Before adhering the panel, I ran my card base through my Sizzix with a Lil Inkers cover plate that applies this gorgeous stitching. It works best with heavy card stock like the Bazzill Marshmallow card shoppe. A few sequins by Pretty Pink Posh and I was done! I really love how it turned out … I wish I had thought of this design before I set out to create almost 30 different card designs for my christmas cards 😉

Cheers and don’t forget to hop on over to Virginia’s Challenge and let her know just how special she is. My card will be sent off to the following challenges: The Paper Players “Tic Tac Toe” and I’m choosing the combination White + Embossing + Punch or Die Cut and Simon Says Stamp “Anything Goes”.

Lastly, don’t miss out on these two fantastic deals:

  • Kit and Clowder Coloring Classes have a sale ending Tuesday, Dec 1. Get their classes at a discount or even snatch a free one. If you like my coloring, that’s where I learned it!

Coloring Practice: High Contrast Coloring

November 30, 2015

Ho ho ho! I have been looking forward to creating this card for ages! Well, at least since I first spotted this Purple Onion Designs stamp last year. This Santa Claus is just the most adorable ever, don’t you think? It’s a surprisingly large image, which turned out great after all because he can be the focal point of a card all by himself.

My focus today is on adding a lot of contrast to a colored image. I used to be very scared of doing that, but over time, I realized that to take my coloring to the next level, I needed to shed my fear of the darkness 😉 Well, that and Sandy Allnock keeps emphasizing how important shadows are and I learned to control them in my Kit and Clowder coloring classes (they have a sale which ends Tuesday Dec 1 2015!!).

Santa by Purple Onion Designs. Coat: G99,R59,R37,R35. Mittens+Shoes: BV29,W9,W6. Skin: E04,E11,E21,E00,E000. Bauble: YG67,YG17,YG03. Hair+Beard+Coat Trimmings: N5,N3,N2,N1.N0.

Santa by Purple Onion Designs. Coat: G99,R59,R37,R35. Mittens+Shoes: BV29,W9,W6. Skin: E04,E11,E21,E00,E000. Bauble: YG67,YG17,YG03. Hair+Beard+Coat Trimmings: N5,N3,N2,N1.N0.

Conventionally, you’ll learn that you should blend within a color family, and that’s ok when you are just starting out. But as you can see in this card, there’s nothing wrong with going outside of the color family. I was wasting time researching on Pinterest and stumbled across some color combinations for red that I had not considered and I was amazed how much more depth they allowed me to add to my images.

I will not lie; the coloring of this image took me an hour. Not sure if that is because I am still a beginner, or because working in multiple layers simply takes time. But I want to put this out there because I always thought coloring has be quick and efficient. There’s nothing wrong with that approach, but don’t forget to enjoy the process. It shouldn’t be a chore. It should be a treat, something to look forward to and to enjoy.

Santa's Holly Jolly Christmas

You know me, I could not help adding a few dots to this card. I first created the background and added some sequins by Pretty Pink Posh with my Glossy Accents and Fine Tip Applicator. Once I had the sequins placed, it was easy to add the dots around them and connect the sequins. I started out with just Stardust dots, and they shimmer gorgeously when you tilt the card in the light, but then I also added a few white gel pen dots for contrast and they really seal the deal.

Santa's Holly Jolly Christmas

The image itself was cut out by my Brother Scan ’n Cut machine. I was absolutely delighted how flawlessly the machine did it. I used heavy paper by Simon Says Stamp because I knew I would be cutting it out. With some foam tape, I mounted Santa on my card base and that was it.

Thanks for stopping by today, I hope you enjoyed the coloring tutorial and have fun coloring some of your own images!

Purple Onion Designs is currently having a sale (Nov 2015, just in case you read this July next year) with huge savings! Don’t forget to check it out!

Copic Coloring for Fun + GREAT SAVINGS on Coloring Classes!

November 29, 2015

Colorful greeting, crafters! I have recently started to focus more on my coloring skills, since coloring is something I enjoy very, very much. Online stores like Etsy offer a huge variety of digital images that just wait to be discovered by me and one of my favorite stores is PPinkydolls (it’s not a typo, there are really two p’s). I absolutely love the images: they are not too cute, and have a lot of character.

Before I get to my card, here’s some great BLACK FRIDAY NEWS: My favorite coloring class Kit and Clowder is having some great deals for you! Sale ends Tuesday, Dec 1 2015!

  1. “Purchase any of our Technique Classes (Skin and Hair, Clothing, or Animals), or our Perfecting Pencils class and receive a project class of your choice FREE!”
  2. “All previous Create and Learn classes available for sale this weekend only!
Grab the ones you’ve missed out on! This is a great way to trial our most popular class!”

Those are fantastic deals and I hope you can treat yourself. You can purchase and download the class content now, and then use the holidays at the end of the year to start with the classes – that’s how I got hooked last year 🙂

"Candy Circus Lily" by Ppinkydolls. Dress+Hat: R89,RV19,R85,R83. Eyes: B24,B05,B02. Leggings: BG78,BG18,BG72,BG11. Balloon: G99,YG67,YG17,YG03. Skin: E04,E11,E21,E00,E000,R20. Arms: (Leggings colors)+W9,W6,W4,W00. Hair: E49,E18,E13,E53.

“Candy Circus Lily” by Ppinkydolls. Dress+Hat: R89,RV19,R85,R83. Eyes: B24,B05,B02. Leggings: BG78,BG18,BG72,BG11. Balloon: G99,YG67,YG17,YG03. Skin: E04,E11,E21,E00,E000,R20. Arms: (Leggings colors)+W9,W6,W4,W00. Hair: E49,E18,E13,E53.

I was once more inspired by Debra James who excels at making an image the focal point of a card. Digital images allow you to print them as small or as large as you want (well, you might not be able to print them billboard size, but most will easily allow you to cover a card front completely or go even bigger). The coloring was originally meant as a practice of what I had learned in my Kit and Clowder classes (“Clothes”, and “Hair and Skin”).

I am pretty happy about the clothes, even though I might have overdone the folds on the hat. The hair of the Ppinkydolls images is always a challenge, but if I don’t challenge myself, I can’t grow, right?

I outlined the image with a light blue, and then traced with a white gel pen around it. I like the effect – it’s very subtle, but somehow interested. I created my own glitter paper, added a stamped sentiment from Wplus9, and matted the panel on my card front. Done!

Thanks for stopping by today! I’m sending this card – very last minute – off to the following challenges: Addicted to Stamps and More “Make Your Mark”; Simon Says Stamp “Anything Goes”; Addicted To CAS “Dimension”.
