Hello crafters! Today I am guest for the CAS on Sunday challenge which I won a few weeks ago. Our theme is “Halloween”, but the cards should be clean and simple. As I was struggling to merge these two concepts, I discovered a new (to me) artist on Etsy and she has the most adorable Halloween image which worked perfectly for my project. Want to find out more about the coupon for the Kit and Clowder coloring classes? Read on!
Today’s video is a speed coloring video. That means that I do explain a few steps, but then just let you watch the process as I work my way through all the layers.
As you can see, working with pencils isn’t something you can really do as a 5-minute project. If you want to achieve great saturation and blending, you’ll need to work in layers and that takes time. On this card, I was actually practicing my “light” hand since, after a conversation with Alyce, who teaches at Kit and Clowder, it turned out that I was way too heavy handed.
The video shows clearly just how lightly I applied the first layers to make sure I wouldn’t smooth out the tooth in the paper prematurely (which would prevent me from adding more color). It was an exercise in restraint, but I was rather happy with the result.
After I was finished with the entire card and had added my black Enamel accents for eyes, and some sequins and seed beads by Pretty Pink Posh, I felt that I wanted the card to sparkle just a bit. I started with Wink of Stella, but couldn’t get enough shine on the project, so I grabbed various colors of Perfect Pearls, picked them up with my WOS brush, and added them right on top of my coloring for an amazing sheen.
I hope you will check out Goebi on Etsy – her digi stamps are amazing and I’ll be using another one of her images soon, so another video is coming your way in the new few days (subscribe to my blog or YouTube channel so you won’t miss out on anything!). If you want to check out her blog for other fun images, you can find her here.
Coupon for Kit and Clowder & Grande Prize
As I keep telling you guys, all my coloring skills are from taking classes at Kit and Clowder. I have an in-depth review of the classes I took here, if you want to check that out first.
I found that within just a few weeks (when I started) I showed a clear improvement in my skills – and so will you. So, no more excuses, and with the next 30DayColoringChallenge coming up in November, you have the perfect opportunity to practice every day and learn something new.
Use the code julia10 to get 10% off when you purchase a class at Kit and Clower. The coupon is valid until and throughout October 31. You can apply this coupon to all full coloring classes (“Hair and Skin”, “Clothes”, “Perfecting Pencils”, and many many more), but not towards the Create And Learn monthly subscription. If you are a Create and Learn subscriber already and want to purchase previous monthly classes, you can use the coupon for those, though.
As a Grande Prize Alyce will be giving away a full coloring class for free to one person who leaves comments on my little coloring series for Halloween (three more posts to come, so subscribe!). If you have already purchased a class with the coupon, you can get a full refund for your purchase, so no reason to hold off! The winner will be announced here November 1.
