Just One More Card

Discovering the world of card making. One Project at a time.

Think Inside the Box

September 1, 2016

Card by Julia Altermann. Stamps by Purple Onion Designs. Frame and seed beads by Pretty Pink Posh. Copic colors: Blooms: YR09,YR07,YR016,Y38,Y17,Y15. Greens: YG95,YG93,YG91. Blue outline: B000.

Hello crafters! Today I have a project for you that will help you stretch your supplies a bit by thinking outside the box – even though I’m using Purple Onion Designs stamps to create a frame, so technically I’m thinking inside the box 🙂 Check it out!

The two floral images I used today are meant to be standalone images or at least to be used to create a scene, normally. But I decided to hide away the parts I didn’t want (the grass at the bottom) and instead let the blooms stretch towards the center of my card to create a frame.

I used some basic masking to make sure some of the blooms appeared behind others, and I also used my trusty Stamp-A-Ma-Jig to make sure I got the placement right. It’s much less work than you might think, and I love the effect you can create.

In addition, you can do this with almost all stamps – use them to frame a sentiment or another image, basically create decoration. I also opted for very simple copic coloring, and I sprayed the project with some Perfect Pearl mist for shimmer. I stamped sentiment, also from Purple Onion Designs, with Versafine Pigment ink and heat embossed clear embossing powder on top to make it stand out more.

Once the base was done, I adhered a frame I had die-cut with a Pretty Pink Posh die on top and also some seed beads because I couldn’t help myself 🙂

Thank you for stopping by today! I hope you got inspired! I’m sending this card off to the following challenges: Simon Says Stamp “Anything Goes” and Time Out #65 with – in my interpretation – a fall theme. I specifically used fall colors for my card, when blossoms and leaves turn to darker, more saturated shades.

Brilliant use of these stamps. The frame is simply gorgeous and so meticulously done. Of course, your coloring is spectacular but the design is the star here.

    Hi Julia,
