Hello crafters! Today I am back with a guest post for Gerda Steiner Designs! I know that unicorns are all the rage now, but while most companies go for the super cute look, I was looking for some unicorns with … “attitude”. And of course I found them at GSD! These cuties are just so much fun – hilarious, snarky, and just perfect for everyone who wants to create a card with character.
For coloring, I am using Distress Inks, Stabilo Markers, and Gansai Tambi watercolors but of course you don’t need to use all three. You can just use one the mediums for all techniques I showed. I was just too lazy and used each medium for what it does best.
I stamped everything on watercolor card stock since that will work work best with watercolors and it made blending the colors very easy – especially the rainbow colors on the hair of the unicorn. The heavy watercolor paper also makes it very easy to emboss a die into it, instead of just cutting through the paper.
After I was done with the coloration, I figured I wanted to add extra shimmer to the mane of the unicorn. I rummaged through my drawers and found Liquid Pearls, and remembered you can spread that around with a brush. I had some in the colors matching the mane and they really did add some amazing shimmer. I sprayed the entire project with my Perfect Pearls mist anyways, too, because I believe that a there can never be too much sparkle when a unicorn is involved.
Of course I had to drop some Star confetti on the card as well, and I hope it will be a fun surprise for the recipient on their birthday!
Thank you for stopping by today! I hope you got inspired!
