Hello crafty friends! Are you ready for a super cute, tiny, and fun card? Then let’s take a look at some Purple Onion Designs images which I colored up with my colored pencils, specifically Polychromos pencils.
This little card is 4 1/4“ x 4 1/4, so a perfect square. I used to do only normal A2 sized cards, but for smaller images the smaller format works better, I feel, because the images don’t ”get lost” on the card. I have to look into the bar (?) format to see if I might use that also.
I started out with some masking here – I needed it to look like the little critter was inside the upturned umbrella, and masking does wonders for that. If I would have thought it through properly, I’d have made sure that the critter was in front of the handle of the umbrella, but somehow my brain didn’t figure out how to do that. For masking, if you don’t have fancy masking paper, use post-it tape or simple post it notes. It’s a great cheap alternative.
As always when working with colored pencils, remember to work in layers. I can’t stress that enough. Start with a super light hand, and then add layers. I’ve talked about that extensively in previous tutorials and it bears repeating. When you put down the first one or two layers, it’s not about getting perfect coverage. It’s ok for your paper to shine through the color. You take care of that later.
And don’t be afraid to add additional detail to your images. I drew in some circles on the umbrella, simply because I felt like that. You can enhance images easily that way and make them yours, and no extra skills are required 🙂 You could also try stripes or of course you can also leave them blank.
Thank you for stopping by today! I hope you got inspired! And of course this card goes off to Simon Says Stamp “Anything Goes”.
