Hey, crafty friends! Today’s project turned out to have a double meaning, one which I didn’t even realize until I was done. I wanted to show my Purple Onion Designs stamps some love, and wanted to do some coloring with my Stabilo Carbothello chalk-pastel pencils. Here’s what came out of it:
As you can see, my rainbow phase struck again. This time, I actually struggled a bit. I needed to blend the colors together in the center without ending up with an unpleasant brown or black. The pencils allow you to mix colors nicely, so a yellow and red will give you orange, etc. I put down quite a few layers of color too until I was satisfied with the saturation.
The chalk is quite opaque, so some of the details in the mushroom got lost but I drew them back in with my white gel pen. I also spritzed the card with my Perfect Pearl mist, but completely ignored the fact that these colors react with water. In my attempt to clean up the top part of the card, I ripped the paper and ended up putting a die cut cloud border there to cover it up.
I wish I wouldn’t have accidentally damaged the card, as I wanted to keep it one layer, but at least now I know that I can use chalk pastels with water, too. And only after I was done, I realized that my mushroom looked quite psychedelic – which is hilarious, if you consider that mushrooms can be used to alter a state of mind. Wonder what my subconscious was telling me here 🙂
Cheers! This card goes off to Addicted To Stamps and More “Anything Goes”.
