Me and my chalk pastels – it’s a new medium for me, and even though you’ve seen me use them before, I wanted to do some coloring on kraft card stock this time using easy images by Purple Onion Designs.
Chalk pastels go on very easy – they are, after all, chalks. To get some intense color, I added layer after layer, making sure to blend in-between and remove excessive chalk with a soft make up brush or by just breathing on my coloring. You don’t want to rub your hand over it accidentally and smear it.
Another consideration with chalk pastel is how to make them stay put, especially once you send a card off. I solve this problem by spraying my finished piece at arms length with hair spray. That keeps the chalk from rubbing off. Even though I had originally intended to make a one layer card, I ended up foam mounting my panel on a card base and adding a few sequins for a finishing touch.
