Ok, here’s the thing: Has this happened to you as well? You get a new crafty product, you brainstorm, you have an epiphany. You joyfully create the card, giddy about your own brilliance and when you are just about to share you, you find out by chance that you have accidentally created almost the exact same card as someone else?!
That’s what happened to me with this card. I had tried out different designs, settled on this one, and was so happy – until I saw this card by MFT design team member Kay Miller. Except for some minor details, I had accidentally made the same card. Awwwwwwww!!!!
I could have chucked mine in the corner, but I decided to share it with you anyways. Why? Well, I made a video for it, I used different colors, and I really didn’t have time to make another one 😀
I choose purple colors for the background because this card is one for someone very special. If you are following me on Instagram, you might have seen this picture – a box full of Copic markers, a few Distress Markers, and other goodies. It was sent to me by the incredible generous Dagmar from Arizona and her payment request was (wait for it) “a pink card”. Needless to say, her generosity touched me very very deeply and I will gladly send many (!!) pink and purple cards to her across the sea. This is just the first one 🙂
As you can see in the video, I’m using the technique that Jennifer McGuire has shown recently where she adds Perfect Pearls over still wet Distress Ink to make it shine. While I love the purple background, I wanted it to shimmer and this was an easy and fast way to do it with the supplies I had on hand.
The coloring was done with Polychromos Pencils on heavy watercolor card stock. Watercolor card stock has texture and that’s what you need in order for the pigment of the pencils to stick to the paper and to allow you to build up layer after layer. In a few weeks, I’ll have an in-depth article about coloring with colored pencils and which online classes I recommend from experience so you can do this as well.
For today, thank you for stopping by and commenting. Hugs to you all and I hope you have a fantastic weekend!
I’m sending this card off to the following challenges: Simon Says Stamp “No Designer Paper”.
