Hi guys! Finally I have the opportunity to play along with a few challenges and use a few new goodies by My Favorite Things. Since I’m entering the card into multiple challenges, there are a few techniques that I am combining on this card. Let’s get started:
First of all, I’ve decided to use my dies with the Penguins in Paradise stamp set. A one layer card would have required masking and fuzzy cutting on my part and part of me was too lazy, and my hands are not that great for doing this. So, die cutting it was. I elated that my stamping was spot on – I’m having trouble aligning the stamps with the die cuts sometimes, but it seems that after three years I’m slowly getting the hang of it 😉
Next up, masking. One of the challenges requires it and I had a circular negative space left over. That’s why I save all my scraps, for opportunities like this. Only most of the time, I don’t remember I have them 😉 I usually store them with the coordinating dies, but even so I sometimes don’t remember to flip the sleeve to see what I have stored in the back lol. This mask allowed me to create the background with Distress Inks, which was important for yet another challenge (to match the layout).
For the copic coloring, I went a bit out of my comfort zone and colored outside of the blending family. A blending family is usually everything in one color family, but this time I blended grey with clue, reds with red-violets, and browns with oranges. Yeah, I really went bonkers here – but it worked thanks to Sandy Allnock’s Copic Coloring Chart.
So, where I’m submitting this card to? Addicted to Stamps is asking for “Anything Goes”; Make It Colorful is asking for “Blending outside of the color family”; the layout of the card was inspired by CASE this Sketch and last but not least Happy Little Stampers is asking for “Masking”.
Thanks so much for stopping by today! Your comments make my day!
