Hi crafters, today I have the honor to be a Surprise Sweetie for the Cupcake Inspiration challenge. The current challenge theme is “Butterflies & Bugs”. As I’m very afraid of bugs, I decided to stick with butterflies because those I like. They are terribly hard to photograph, but once I get close to them, I just admire the beauty — I love the colors and their patterns.
For my card I decided to make the colors of butterflies really shine. That’s why I kept most of the card white so the butterflies would really pop against that background.
I used dies and a punch to get the butterfly shapes from Copic friendly paper and then used 3 to 4 colors to create a nice ombre effect on each shape. Granted, I got a lot of color on my fingers as well, but I still felt it was better to create the shapes first and then color. That gave me more control over how far I wanted each color to go compared to coloring a random piece of card stock and then punching from that.
Since I only had the colorful shapes, I decided to add some accents with a white gel pen to give the butterflies more interest. I used different patterns on the different colors, but within the color family, I stayed with the same pattern. Otherwise it might have gotten too confusing and too hectic on the card.
By only partially obscuring the butterflies to the card, I created extra dimension and the illusion of movement. It also helps to have some butterflies covering up others.
And finally, I added some sparkling clear sequins by Pretty Pink Posh for some shimmer and glimmer to the card. I hope that you enjoy the card and the splashes of color. Thank you for stopping by and leaving a comment, you brighten up my day!
I’m also sending this card off to the following challenges: The Friday Mashup, which asks for butterflies; Addicted to CAS #64 which asks for any kind of animals; and CAS on Sunday Tic Tac Toe and I’m choosing the row: “Butterfly, Male or Female, Stitches (Real or Faux)”.
