Who’d have thought – after almost four weeks, my cold returned (with a vengeance) and I’m stuck once more home on sick leave. This has two upsides: first, I went to see a specialist who finally prescribed me some meds (and after 48 hours I’m feeling better than I have in a month!) and the second upside: with nothing else allowed than eat and sleep, I did some creating (don’t ask me into which category that falls).
I picked a digi stamp by Gerda Steiner Designs – the little turtle with the balloons was just too cute to pass up. I also wanted to use my Prismacolor pencils again and this image seemed perfect.
It might not look like it, but the coloring actually took a bit of time (about one X-File … I’m measuring time in TV episodes while crafting). After reading this excellent tutorial by my fellow German crafter Anika, I used my Prismacolors a bit differently: I started with a base layer of color, which I didn’t blend with Zest It (using it instead of Gambol, essentially the same thing). Then I added a bit of shading, blended it with the lighter color, and only then went in with the blending solution.
I repeated these steps by going darker and darker in color to create more dimension on the image. I like how the balloons turned out and the shell of the turtle – lots more practicing necessary, but it was fun!
I then fuzzy cut around parts of the image, mounted it on my card base with foam tape and had to stamp the sentiment only then – I forgot about it, as I always do, and then used a black marker to fill in the areas that didn’t stamp well. You wouldn’t know if I hadn’t told ya, right? 😉
Last, but not least, I coated the balloons with Wink of Stella, then added a layer of Glossy Accents. I seem to only use the Glossy Accents for this purpose now … for regular glue tasks, it’s too much work because it always has a clogged nozzle. I’ve tried all the tricks, but I’ve resigned myself to the fact that this glue and I will only come together for specific purposes now. It’s ok.
I hope you enjoyed the card and give you colored pencils some love! I’m sending this card off to the following challenges: CASology NBUS because I never used that digi stamp before; NBUS (Never Before Used Schtuff) because I never used that digi before 😉 and Addicted to Stamps and More Make Your Mark.
