Hello fellow crafters! Today I went a bit crazy – you might ask, What else is new?. I wanted to use a wonderful stamp by Paper Smooches called Blossoming Buds, but I also wanted to give my card something extra, but it took a stroke of genius to know how to do that. (Truthfully, I was standing in the kitchen, buttering a bread roll, when I suddenly came up with that.)
As you can see, I combined a few techniques on this card. Firstly, I used my Blender Pen (my new best friend) on watercolor pencils and really like the effect I got and how I was able to have a ton of control even in tiny areas. I’m just too challenged with a water brush sometimes. I’m working on water color card stock here, which is needed to hold up to the blending fluid and give you this nice effect.
I then fuzzy cut around the lower part of the stamped floral image – yes, I did cut off parts of my front panel. I wish I could get a hold of the die for this set, then I could have partially die cut it. But it’s not too hard to do with scissors, either. Of course, now the card wouldn’t stand, so I die cut another piece of card stock, stamped it repeatedly to create a pattern, and then adhered it behind the front panel.
Off camera, I added some Wink of Stella. And let me tell you, if you filled up your used up brush with water to get the last of the sparkle out of it, don’t push the brush where you grip it too hard and then put it to paper – I always forget that lesson. I got a ton of sparkly fluid on the card and then had to work really fast to salvage it. phew
As you can see I also added some ribbon on the top behind the sentiment from Hero Arts. That’s because I’m “shopping my stash”, trying to use up all the stuff that I have but which doesn’t really get a lot of love from me. I was inspired by two blog posts over at Susan Raihala’s blog: one where she talks about her plans for 2015 and a second one where she talks about how to take on the challenges in the new year. I’ve made a list of all my “unused” supplies, re-organized all my “stuff” drawers over the holidays (lots of time while I was sick) and now have a much better understanding of what I have. And I’m challenging myself to use up as many supplies as I can before buying new things (let’s see how long that resolution will last).
Hope you enjoyed the video and the photos and maybe you got inspired to take your card’s front panels to a new level? I’m sending this card off to the Friday Mashup challenge and choosing the option “Floral” for my project.
