Since you’ve already seen a few christmas themed cards creep up on the blog, I thought it was time to officially start my first ever video series, the “Merry Card Series 2014”. The focus will of course be christmas, but I want to put emphasis on showing you new techniques or ideas to get the most out of your stamps and dies.
Today, for the Colour Me…! challenge which asks for blues and coral colors, I decided to get out my new Mama Elephant Winter Wonderland stamps and dies and create a scene that doesn’t have the traditional green and red of Christmas but rather a more calm and ethereal feel.
To me, green and red and gold are traditional christmas colors and they are festive and merry. What I was going for … have you ever been outside really early or late in the day on a crisp winter day? When the earth is almost blue because it’s so cold and the sun’s light isn’t a warm gold, but a weak yet comforting coral? When the air bites your skin, but is so clear that you feel you can breathe in forever? That’s what I was going for.
My super intense sponged background was muted down with a piece of heavy weight vellum. It calms everything down and reduces the distraction, so the focus can be on the deer and the sentiment.
Of course, the sentiment is something in itself, with the WOW Black Twinkle embossing powder – love that stuff. It’s shiny and festive and will be used a lot by me this holiday season.
And because my card looked a bit empty, I added a few Marshmallow 4mm sequins by Pretty Pink Posh. Since they are so tiny, you can put more on a card than with the 6mm size and I like to think it looks like falling snow.
I hope you enjoyed the card – I’d be thrilled if you’d subscribe to my YouTube channel or my blog (link to RSS Feed in right sidebar at the top). I have many more videos coming up and I’d love to have you along as a follower. Cheers!
