Hello crafty friends, welcome to another day in my Merry Holiday card video series.
An especially warm and thankful welcome to all my new subscribers and followers who discovered me through the recent Create A Smile video hop. It means THE WORLD to me that you are stopping by my blog and YouTube channel! Thank you so much!
Today I have a card for the Colour Me…! challenge which asks for a beautiful color combination (I’m on the team with the color combination on the right – you can pick which team you want to support … pick mine! 😉 ).
I wanted to keep the overall look of the card simple yet still give it a few wow elements. I tried to do this with a few things: the wide ribbon behind the front panel is of course inspired by the awesome Nichol Magouirk and I was super happy to have ribbon in the right color 🙂 Another important detail is the thin brown border around the little punched square on the front – that adds contrast and makes the little house stand out much more.
Since the card would have looked a little bland if I would’ve stopped there, I added some sprinkles of watercolor. You could use a spray, but I didn’t have any in the right color and mine are all clogged up – very disappointed with them. To create the “perfect” splatter I took a leaf out of Dawn’s book and bought a rough brush that gives some resist when you run your finger against the … How do you call the end of the brush that you paint with?!!
Update: Thanks to my uber-awesome YouTube subscribers and attentive blog readers (shout out to Coni and Joanne) I have now learned that I used a stencil brush! There you go! The power of the interwebz rulez 🙂
Anyway, if that end gives some resist, it’s easier to “spray” with it. If you’re not using watercolor card stock, be careful not to wet the paper too much. For some added sparkle, mix perfect pearls into the water for the watercolor.
Last but not least I added some silver twine behind the little house to add a festive touch. I’m always surprised how much of a difference this “twine mess” makes. And I’ll be forever grateful to Laura Sterckx for introducing me to the concept 🙂
I hope you got inspired and will join us over at Colour Me…! If you enjoyed the video, I’d love if you leave me a comment or even subscribe to my channel or blog. More good stuff to come, promise 🙂
Have a wonderful day and thanks so much for stopping by!
