With a friend’s birthday coming up, I took the opportunity to create a male birthday card and use some of my brand new stamps from Paper Smooches for the Paper Smooches SPARKS Anything Goes challenge.
I used the Paper Smooches Chilly Chumbs on Dani Peuss heavy white card stock. To create the illusion of dimension, I masked some of the animals off before stamping the next one. To do that I stamped the critters on masking paper, then fuzzy cut it.

After stamping the critters, I colored them with Prismacolor Pencils, blending the colors with blending solution. I’m still learning this technique, so the coloring is far from perfect, but I’m having more luck with this than with my Copics 😉

Finally, I stamped the balloons from Clearly Besotted Stamps “Make A Wish” set, also using some masking to create the illusion of depth. I used three Hero Arts Shadow Inks (Navy, Tide Pool, Soft Sky) and stayed within the blue color scheme since the card is for a guy. I think the greenish Tide Pool makes for a nice contrast and breaks up the blue monotony. I covered some balloons with Glossy Accents and sprinkled some glitter powder on them.
I once more covered up the critters with their masks and used a sponge with Soft Granite Shadow Ink to create the shadow beneath the chilly chums to make them “stand” on some kind of ground.
The sentiment was stamped with black Versafine and is also from the Make a Wish stamp set.
Since the critters are from a brand new stamp set, I’m also entering this in the A Blog Named Hero: New Year, New Stash challenge 🙂
Update 3 February 2014: Woot! I earned a Heroine Badge for my card from A Blog Named Hero. So happy!
